2009 in review and some 2010 plans
New Year’s Resolutions? Those things always work out so well, eh?
So, we’re all another year closer to our deaths! (it’s disturbing because it’s true!)
Anyways, let’s take a look back at 2009 for this site, shall we? I know you want to.
Let’s start with the guilty party, myself. In 2009 I posted:
- 30 Imaginary Daughter strips, down from 42 in 2008.
- 24 Imaginary Daughter Bonus strips, up from 5 in 2008.
- 54 total Imaginary Daughter strips, up from 47 in 2008 and just enough to justify ID’s “updates weekly” claim, since 2009 had 53 weeks.
- 1 Stochastic strip, down from 17 in 2008. Which is cool because Stochastic is just there for when I need it, and I guess I didn’t need it too much this past year? Will probably be removed from the sidebar once other projects begin…
- 0 Have WMD, Will Travel strips, down from 1 in 2008. Have WMD has been removed from the sidebar since it isn’t likely that I’d work on it during this year either.
In non-comic related stuff, I also worked (a lot!) in a couple of games that haven’t gone anywhere yet (sorry, I’ve learned now not to talk about release dates). In fact this was the main reason ID went offline for most of the first half of the year (8 pages vs 22 in the second half). Lesson: learned? Let’s see how it goes in 2010. I’m already working in another, simpler game that seems to be going well so far.
On a more positive note, I also worked in Imperfect Creationship, which got done in time and, while also consuming a lot of my time, gave me far more satisfaction. An imperfect product itself, I’m still quite proud of it. I’m looking forward to doing more and better animation stuff this year.
Also on the animation front, I did some work for Star Wars Uncut. Fun! I’d do it again if I could.
How well did this site do during 2009? Well, it did moderately better than in 2008 with about 1% more visits per month. Imaginary Daughter itself did markedly better, with a gazillion% more readers than before, if you take into account the mirrors (specifically in DrunkDuck where it was a featured comic). Still, this year I’ll actually work on advertising the site, a task which I haven’t been too keen to take on. You can help here, by spreading the love, though you’ll have to hurry before ID ends…
Speaking of the site, it was heavily remodeled again this year. This won’t happen again any time soon, because although I love messing around with the code, it distracts me from the stuff that really matters. So aside from some improvements, there shouldn’t be much change here during this year. However, the structure of the site will change somewhat as I add and remove sections. I’ll be focusing more on comics and less on other stuff, so that should be reflected here as well.
The biggest change I seek to make this year on the site is to (finally!) go into a M-W-F comic schedule. We’ll see how that goes. We’ll also see exactly what gets published on those days; once ID finishes, I think I’ll tackle a handful of short stories I’ve got lying around rather than a long-term one or even a medium-sized one like ID itself.
I’d like to do at least a page of art per day in 2010. So far, so good! Hah!
Finally, I think the nicest thing about 2009 is how readers got quite engaged with ID and came up with all sort of questions, comments, fanart and so on. I love it and hopefully 2010 will see more of this.
Anyways – I’m looking forwards to another year with you people. See ya!

What do you mean by “you people”?! LOL j/k. The “handful of short stories” sounds good. Though, I will be sad to see ID go. I always get too attached to the characters in stories. Something that probably make me a terrible story writer.
That’s awesome that ID was featured on another site. Something to really be proud of. I’ve already sent a few people here so.. you’re welcome!
